Presidente

  • Specialized in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology.
  • In 1995 she became Full Professor of Internal Medicine and from 1995 to 1999 held the Chair of Geriatrics and Gerontology in the University of Sassari.
  • From 1999 to 2017 she was the Director of the Internal Medicine Unit of the University Hospital of Padua and from 2013 to 2017 she had the first Chair in Italy of Gender Medicine at the University of Padua.
  • Since 2018, she is retired and she is Senior Full Professor of the University of Padua.
  • She is the Founder (2009) and President of the Italian Research Centre for Gender Health and Medicine and has organized numerous National Congress on Gender Medicine in Padua.
  • In 2012, in Baltimore she was elected as member of the Scientific Board of the International Society for Gender Medicine (IGM).
  • Since 2015, she is Scientific Editor of the Italian Journal of Gender Specific Medicine, which now changed the name: Journal of Sex and Gender-Specific Medicine.
  • She was the President and organizer of the 10th IGM Congress 2022 held in Padua 16-17 September.
  • Author of more than 270 publications in international and national journals and co-editor of 6 monographs.

Prof. Andrea Cignarella

  • Graduated with high marks from the University of Milan.
  • After his PhD in Pharmacology, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Münster for 4 years.
  • He has excelled as an educator and researcher at the Universities of Milano and Padova.
  • In 2010 he was awarded a highly competitive Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
  • His current position is Associate Professor at the University of Padova Medical School”.

Prof.ssa Luigia Trabace

  • Luigia Trabace is Full Professor of Pharmacology (SSD BIO/14 Pharmacology) at the Dept. Clinical and Experimental Medicine, University of Foggia.
  • She spent 12 months (1994-Research Fellowship), at the Laboratory of Neuropharmacology, Institute of Pharmacological Research “Mario Negri”, Milan, Italy, and 18 months (January 1996- June 1997-Post-doctoral Fellowship), at the Department of Cognitive and Molecular Neuroscience, The Babraham Institute, Cambridge, UK.
  • She is author of 130 publications on scientific international journals and of several books and book chapters in the field of Pharmacology.
  • Prof. Trabace’s activity has been mainly addressed to the evaluation of gender pharmacology in preclinical and clinical research.
  • At present, she is Member of National Center for Health and Gender Medicine (Padua), and Coordinator of Italian Group of Gender Pharmacology (Italian Society of Pharmacology).
  • She is Director of Specialization School in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Vice President of Clinical Ethics Committee Basilicata Region.
  • Prof. Trabace has been Head of Department of Biomedical Sciences- University of Foggia, Member of Board of Directors of University of Foggia and Member of the Executive Committee of Italian Society of Pharmacology.

  • Component and member of the Scientific Secretariat of the Italian National Observatory for Gender Medicine.
  • Author of about 140 articles in International journals (H-Index 43), her research in recent years has focused on the identification of humoral and cellular biomarkers in immune-mediated diseases and in tumors with particular regard to gender differences and the action of estrogen
Dr.ssa Emanuela Folco

Dr.ssa Emanuela Folco

  • As a teenager EF spent one year in Dallas, TX, USA thanks to a scholarship by the American Field Service (AFS).
  • She obtained her PhD (magna cum laude) in Humanities and Foreign languages (major: Slavonic Philology and Russian) from the University of Milan, Italy, and spent a sabbatical year at the University of Moscow, Russia.
  • She worked as assistant professor of Slavonic philology at the Department of Slavonic Languages at the University of Milan for three years.
  • In 1976 she joined the Fondazione Giovanni Lorenzini as Secretary General and Executive Board member;
  • in 2013 she was appointed CEO of the Fondazione.
  • She was a founding member of the Giovanni Lorenzini Medical Foundation in Houston, TX, USA and she sits on the Board of Trustees.
  • From 2005 to 2014 she has been the Lorenzini Foundation’s responsible for the International Standard Organization/ISO certification (structure and project quality control).
  • EF’s international experience is extensive having been very active in international activities and in creating international scientific networks for more than 20 years.
  • Among her many scientific activities she has coordinated the NIH Position Paper on Women’s Health and Menopause in 1998-2001 and has been a member of the Board of Work Program 6 of the European Commission/EU on Women’s Health (Brussels, B).
  • From 1997 till 2021 she has been the Executive Director of the International Atherosclerosis Society (a Federation of 68 national societies in 58 countries).
  • She is also one of the founders of the Italian Heart Foundation, of which she has been the chair since 2015, and since its inception in 2009, as the representative of the Fondazione Giovanni Lorenzini, founder and Board member of the Centro Studi Nazionale per la Salute e la Medicina di Genere.
  • Additionally, she was a Board member of the European Heart Network based in Brussels, Belgium for 4 years (EHN has 31 members, not for profit cardiovascular foundations and organizations, in 25 countries in Europe) and continues to work closely with the World Heart Federation in Geneva, CH.
  • The overall objective of her many activities both in Italy and internationally is to have an impact on the health and well-being of the patients and the public and to build the so-called health literacy and thus the health empowerment of each individual. The sustainability of the health systems is also another of her key interests based on the concept that prevention is an investment and not a cost.

Prof. Luca Fabris

  • With a Medical degree at Padua University, Italy (1987), Luca Fabris achieved his PhD at University of Milan, Italy (1997), after a research program developed at University of Birmingham, UK (1995-96).
  • In 2005, he was nominated assistant Professor at the University of Padua, School of Medicine, upgraded to associate Professor in Gastroenterology in 2016.
  • Over the last 25 years, he has focused his scientific interests on topics related to pathophysiology of cholangiopathies, both of inflammatory and neoplastic origin, mainly with translational studies.
  • From 2012, he has joined the Yale Liver Center faculty with an adjunct appointment (currently Associate Professor), where he is involved in the program of genetic biliary diseases, cancers and gender-specific differences in hepatology.
  • Currently, Dr Fabris is serving as Associate Editor for BBA DIS, and as Editorial Board member of Hepatology.
  • Scientific and professional interests extend also to: clinical management of rare liver diseases, diagnostic work-up of cholestasis of unknown origin, cancer surveillance of patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and clinical management of patients with NAFLD.
