  • Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1980-2010), Senior Scholar since 2013, in the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health at the University of Padua. Director of the Gynecology Oncology and Cytodiagnostics Unit (1985-2003) and of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit (2003-2010) of the Padua Hospital.
  • She was part of the Equal Opportunities Commissions of the Veneto Region (1988) and of the University of Padua (1992-1999). She was the first president of the “Project on women’s health based on gender valorisation” of the department of Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (2001). Member of the Superior Council of Health from 1997 to 1999.

Research interests:

Her main research and teaching were dedicated to healthcare activities especially women’s health, seeking the best diagnostic and therapeutic appropriateness in many areas of obstetrics and gynecology and particularly in the prevention of gynecological tumors and in the indications and methods of surgery, particularly of hysterectomy and oophorectomy. Gender studies have focused on the quality of life of doctors in university hospitals in Europe (HOUPE study) and currently on embryonic and fetal adaptability and vulnerability.

  • I was a member of the Superior Health Council for 4 years. Member of the National Oncology Commission, participating in the drafting of the National Oncology Plan in 2007, and a member of the working group of the Ministry of Health for the “Painless Hospital” project 2008-9.
  • Within the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM), of which I was a national councilor, for 15 years I played a coordination role of a national group on simultaneous care and continuity of care, promoting the diffusion in Italy of the simultaneous care model (integration between oncological therapies and palliative care), proposed by the European Society of Oncology (ESMO). Furthermore, in 2007 I promoted a national working group to create an informed consent model for clinical use for oncologists. I also promoted the first national survey among oncologists on ethical issues at the end of life.

Participation in numerous international clinical trials, on gastrointe stinal cancers, urological, brain tumors and hematological malignancies. Study of the cellular microenvironment, and new treatment approaches in particular for elderly cancer patients.

  • She has been the President of the Equal Opportunities Committee of the University of Pisa and of the National Conference of Equal Opportunity Committees of the Italian Universities. From 2012 to 2015, secretary in the section of Sociology of Health and Medicine  and coordinator of a University Relevant Project (PRA) focused on “Health and quality of life”.
